Hasan, is without doubt a rising star. He lives with his parents and younger sister in one of the sprawling urban slums of Gurugram. He is an alert and attentive boy and his curious and eager temperament make the class more interesting. He and his family migrated from the outskirts of Bengal to the Saraswati Kunj slums of Gurugram, three years ago. When
GuideStar India
Platinum Seal certified NGO
Sukarya
team first saw him, he was sifting materials from a heap of garbage. When they asked him if he wanted to study in their school, his answer surprised them. He quizzed, “Ma'am will you charge?” When we said no, it was a free service, he replied promptly, “In that case, I will study in your school and I will return the favour by teaching you Bengali”. Indeed, he did end up teaching several of the team members basic Bengali. Hasan, full of and dreams and zest is not only studying to improve his life but playing the role of an agent of social change and motivating others to study.

Feel thankful for the wonderful gifts in your life!

This Tuesday, we want to express our gratitude to everyone who made the #GivingTuesdayIndia message of generosity reach over 11.4 million people this year. We will never be able to count the millions who were reached through mass media, and those whose hearts were touched by word of mouth!
We put together this short video to capture some of the numerous expressions of generosity. We thank our NGO partners, collaborators from "samaj, sarkaar and bazaar", volunteers and team members across organisations, our supporters,
Daan Utsav - Joy of Giving Week
volunteers, the GivingTuesday global family and friends in the media for joining the celebrations!
Our #EveryTuesday act of kindness for you would be to simply feel thankful for the wonderful gifts in your life and give a hug or send a note to one person you wish to thank! Why wait to express generosity! Just do it and feel the joy!

Donate Rs 600 for Geetha to continue with her education.

This Tuesday, donate Rs 600 for Geetha to continue with her education.

Geetha (name changed) looked longingly at her friend talking to her dad. Her heart saddened at the thought of her dad who died a few years back. Geetha's father was an electrician. He died of electric shock when he was working. The sudden demise shattered the family.
Geetha's mother was a housewife and the family was happy and content meeting their basic requirements when the father was alive. After his death, her mother had to search for a job. She is not much educated. Hence she started working as a creche caretaker. She gets INR 3000 per month. With this income, she has to feed her 2 children and herself.
Geetha joined New Life's coaching class in the 6th standard. Now she is in the 8th standard. She loves Science. She scored 78% of marks. Her aim is to become a teacher.
With the limited income, it is difficult for her mother to send her for higher studies. New Life, a GuideStar India certified NGO, wants to see this poor family come out of their plight by fulfilling Geetha's dream of becoming a teacher. She is being supported to study through their coaching class.
New Life conducts coaching classes after school hours in slums to help those poor kids who can not be guided by their parents. A teacher helps them to do their homework, study and clear their doubts in lessons. The children are taken on an exposure visit once in a year. Skilled children are motivated to participate in talent programs. They are also given awareness on various topics like child sexual abuse, evils of child labour, various health aspects, etc. New Life also supports very poor children to continue their education. Geetha gets support from New Life by way of learning materials, dresses, etc.
Do your bit for Geetha and children like her. Donate Rs.600 to make a difference!

Every act of kindness makes you happy & keeps your heart healthy!

Today is #WorldHeartDay and it makes our heart sing with joy because #EveryTuesday we've been sharing ideas to do a random act of kindness!

So many of you share feedback with us about having experienced pure joy in performing little acts of kindness: smiling at 10 strangers, making tea for security guards, letting someone get ahead in the queue, leaving a toy in a children's park, buying groceries for elderly neighbours, calling a friend who is lonely, thanking your mentor...

Well, research indicates that a happy heart is more likely to keep you healthy! Isn't that wonderful? Practice these little acts of kindness every day of this week as you get ready to celebrate #GivingTuesdayIndia during #DaanUtsav, India's biggest festival of giving!
