When you make a gift of time, add a little love to make it more impactful!

When you make a gift of time, add a little love to make it more impactful!
One of the best gifts you can give someone is the gift of time. Can you recount all the wonderful ways someone has shown you love just by spending time with you? Your spouse taking a day off work on your special day to be with you, a friend staying an extra day while visiting your city just to be with you?
This week, you can try doing the same! Give the gift of your time and volunteer for a cause, it could be a one-off act of reading stories, cleaning up a school compound, cataloguing books for a library, teaching a child, chatting with elders or visiting patients in a hospital! If you can share your expertise in finance, HR, marketing, project management…your gift is much needed!
Yet, you may have wondered why your offer to gift your time and skill does not find enthusiastic takers. You want to teach kids from 5-6pm on a Saturday or want to spend an hour celebrating your birthday with your favourite pastime at a local home for elders. Did you try to find out if their schedule matches your availability? Wouldn’t you do that while fixing a date with your loved one? And, should you need to cancel your appointment, do you care to let them know in advance and try to arrange for a replacement?
Did you check if what you have to offer is something they really need or want? Do you know that sometimes just to make the time and space for you, they rearrange their schedule, they spend money on the art material or books or on refreshments or spare a key resource from another critical project to orient you and make you comfortable, they dedicate a field worker or special communicator to help you with translation? For you to teach a child remotely, its parents are likely to miss out on their daily work so that the child has access to their phone, an elder sibling may miss an online class as they share a device, or a mother misses work to be with her daughter for her safety!
Do put some love into your gift of time and be mindful of the effort and resources families and organisations put in to give you a good experience! With a little love, make your gift of time more productive, joyful and impactful! Happy volunteering!

Put some love upfront into your giving! Get involved before you Click2Give!

The role of giving, above all, is to help us live out our ideals, our beliefs, our best opinion of ourselves, so that when we look into the mirror, we can see someone who as a citizen takes responsibility. Someone who as a neighbour cares.” - Peter Drucker

This Tuesday of this month of Valentine, do an act that is sure to make you love yourself! Make a donation to an NGO and see the difference that you can create!

People often shy away from giving because they feel that their funds might not be utilised in the correct manner or that it will not create the impact they want to see. Which is why, today we are asking you to take responsibility for your gift, get involved, put your heart into it, go beyond before you #Click2Give! When you make a gift of a donation to someone or to an organisation, instead of testing them to see if they would use the money in a fruitful manner, or finding fault with them in the end, be proactive! Put some love upfront into your giving.

Just as you would want to get to know the person you love, talk to them/ read about them to learn more about why they do what to do, what are the challenges they face, what are their aspirations. Go visit the organisation you are donating to and see how your money could be transforming lives and be an active contributor. Make the effort to go beyond before your transaction, your involvement will help you to trust their actions. The agency should be theirs after all - on how they can create positive change for themselves! Observe how your donation given with your involvement brings you immense joy. If your donation makes the intended difference, you will dance with joy, and if it did not, you would be wiser about how difficult it is and what else or what more you could do to help! You are sure to love the person you see in the mirror, a person of compassion taking responsibility for the world around you!

Shower some love by generously giving away your pre-loved articles!

With Valentine's Day coming soon, we dedicate this month to celebrating love. Love not just between romantic partners but love for all our fellow human beings. There are so many ways for us to express love for another, and this February, #EveryTuesday we'll share opportunities to express love and compassion to people you may not know personally, but could be sure that your love would be welcomed and accepted!

Shower some love by generously giving away your pre-loved articles!

When you really love someone, something you enjoy doing is giving them gifts. You invest a lot of time in picking the right ones – would it be something they would like, something they need and were hoping someone would give, would they like the colour, would it be of the right size and fit, would it be safe and durable, etc. Would you give them something old, broken or not functional, would you just gift something you simply wanted to discard? This week, make in-kind donations to organisations working for a cause close to your heart. Spend some time to understand what their needs are, talk to them and get to know how you could help them. Maybe it's a local shelter that needs fresh produce or a local hospital that needs a batch of fresh medicines or toys for their children’s ward. Really immerse yourself in the experience and you will feel the same joy as you would when giving presents to a loved one. And don't just send them the gift - go give it to them, wrapped beautifully in your love! Just as you would spend time with your loved one, watching their reaction as they open the gifts, do the same with the in-kind gifts you donate this season of love! Spend a few precious moments watching people unwrap and use your pre-loved gift: show them the wonderful ways of using your favourite gadget or toy or wearing the garment that was dear to you, read a chapter from the book that was your inspiration, serve the dish you cooked with love. Happy gifting this season of love!

This Republic Day, celebrate NGOs working to make a more equal India!

Our freedom fighters and the founders of our Constitution dreamed of an India where all her citizens enjoy freedom, liberty and a better life! Yet, many of our actions have not really made much of a difference to those suffering from poverty for decades. NGOs across India have been working tirelessly for the betterment of those left behind. This Republic Day, let us support them to create a more equal India.

We are pleased to shine the light on Sewa Bharat, founded in 1984 by Ela Bhatt (The Founder of Self-Employed Women's Association of India - SEWA), it is a national federation of SEWA organisations of women working in the informal economy to further informal women workers’ rights, livelihoods, financial independence, education, health and social security. SEWA Bharat is a GuideStar India Platinum Certified NGO.

"It is the women who are the leaders in change and without their participation poverty can never be removed." - Ela Bhatt, Founder, SEWA Bharat.

SEWA Bharat supports those who do not have a ration card, identification cards and are left out of the scope of government’s support system. SEWA Bharat routinely arranges upskilling workshops for its members. These skills range from digital capacity building to photography and such in order to support their livelihood.

This New Year, resolve to spread warmth every day!

Happy New Year!

One of the things we remember most from childhood is how grandma enjoyed knitting. She was always surrounded by colourful balls of yarn. And the most beautiful thing was that she never made anything for herself! A scarf for a friend, mittens for the new baby, a sweater for the house help. She was always sharing and caring for the people around her.

This New Year's resolve to spread warmth through #SharingIsCaring. Relive those memories by donating warm clothes to the needy.
